The 3DCompCer project aims to develop complex machining tools through innovative additive manufacturing (AM) techniques, namely machining tools with internal cooling systems. The development of tools differentiated from existing ones presents as an innovation the possibility to extend the field of application of ceramic-based machining tools in more demanding machining conditions and with longer lifetimes. At the same time, the optimisation of tool geometry through the introduction of internal coolant channels will significantly reduce tool weight and simultaneously reduce the consumption of expensive raw materials. The optimisation of MA processing on ceramic-based materials for machining tools is innovative and disruptive, bringing benefits in terms of tool performance, material reduction and processing speed.
The EcoRods project aims to process a new carbide product with a gradient of controlled properties through the processing of a bimaterial cylinder consisting of a functional part, originating from an original powder of controlled composition and another part originating from powder residues.
The development of this product presents as an innovation the obtaining of a compositional and microstructural gradient that produces a gradient of mechanical properties with controlled characteristics. The solution proposed with the EcoRods project aims to achieve a more ecologically viable product combined with a gradient of mechanical properties, namely hardness, ductility and thermal stability that will enhance the performance and durability of cutting tools. The demonstration and dissemination of the results achieved under this project represent an important part in achieving the objectives of the work.
Palbit has conceived an investment project which consists of the development of innovative and high precision geometries of complex tools obtained by direct pressing.
This is a type of high-performance, value-added product.
To achieve this goal, a substantial set of pressing and grinding equipment is acquired, which translates into an increase in the capacity of the existing plant. An increase of 34.7% in the gross value of production is expected to reach 14,831,883.75 euros.
The DHardTools project aims at the development of carbide tools with functional diamond coatings for micromachining of ultra-hard materials. The development of this product presents as an innovation the possibility to extend the field of application of diamond coated tools and the monitoring of the micromachining process.
For this purpose the introduction of boron into the diamond structure will be investigated to increase the toughness and process a temperature sensor. The control of the micromachining process through temperature monitoring will increase the lifetime of precision diamond coated tools. On the other hand, these tools can be used for micromachining without the use of lubricant in order to be economically and environmentally more viable.
The On-Surf project is a Mobilising Programme that transversally involves National companies from different sectors of activity and non-business entities in the SI&I, in a broad consortium, around a priority axis in the International Innovation Agenda, Surface Engineering.
The aim is to develop and apply surface modification processes that promote advanced and innovative solutions: (i) in very different activity sectors, such as Automotive, Aeronautics, Moulds & Tools, Health and Electronics; (ii) aligned with the strategic objectives of the National Clusters: Health Cluster Portugal, EnergyIN, Engineering & Tooling, Mobinov, Produtech, Tice. pt; (iii) involving companies positioned throughout the value chain, surface modifiers, solution applicators and end users, intending to be an embryo for a broad initiative that intends to bring to the fore a set of scientific and technological skills, recognized in Portugal in the area of Surface Engineering. The ON-SURF aims, through the mobilisation of the different actors that make up the consortium, to implement a centre of technological competences under this strategic theme to catapult companies to the international market through innovative products, integrating new manufacturing and engineering processes.
